Nearly 1 in 5 Women Have Been Raped

New survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that 19.3% of women have been raped at one point in their lives. In contrast 1.7% of men have been raped.

The study also showed that 43.9% of women and 23.4% of men have experienced some other form of sexual violence. These activities include being made to penetrate, sexual coercion, unwanted sexual contact, and noncontact unwanted sexual experiences.

Victim of stalking had recorded 15 percent for women and nearly 6 percent for men. Male being stalked reported a more even mix of males and females.

The survey took place over cellphones and landlines, with more than 12,000 completed interviews [the Washington Post, 5 Sep 2014].

It is common to put the blame on the pornographic industry for proliferating violent sex. The other media especially the World Wide Web is equally as guilty.
